BBQ Championship

You are invited to one of the premier BBQ cookoffs on the KCBS circuit. Going into its 12th year of sanctioning, the Roots Fest BBQ Cookoff, aka East Central KS State BBQ Championship, will feature maximum of 65 teams smoking up what promises to be some of the best BBQ in the world. The cookoff/festival features some of the finest music available on the BBQ circuit, as well as plenty of kid’s activities, arts & crafts, and FOOD. Please read on for some of the more pertinent BBQ related information.

Check-in starts at 10am Friday morning at Check Point Chicky. Please follow directions via the map on our web site or the map you will receive in your confirmation.

Meat inspection can take place as soon as you are in your assigned space.

This cookoff will feature Kid's Que. More info available on the entry form.

A cooks meeting will be in the judging tent at 6:30pm or 7pm Friday evening. Exact time of cooks’ meeting will be contained in the confirmation e- mail, as well as posted the day of the event.

Wrist bands will be provided (qty of 4) and must be worn at all times.

Quiet time Friday night will be 30 minutes after the last band quits performing.

Electricity IS NOT available. Use of generators will be allowed.

Water and ice will be available at central locations. Teams must provide water containers. Attempts will be made to assist you in hauling water and delivering ice.

PLEASE dispose of GREASE in appropriate containers (barrels) supplied by ROOTS FEST!

Awards will be announced promptly at 3:00pm Saturday afternoon.

All BBQ teams will receive their assigned space number at Check Point Chicky. All teams must enter through Check Point Chicky. If you arrive after 4pm it is possible nobody will be at Check Point Chicky to check you in. Starting at 4pm we will check Check Point Chicky every 15 minutes for late entries. We are typically only waiting on a handful of teams at this point.

Entry fee—$125.00; KCBS categories. Spaces are 20’ x 30’, on pavement.
